Sarasavi gee Sisila

Sarasavi Gee Sisila, one of the most anticipated events on the university calendar is the annual musical extravaganza organized by Building Economics Students’ Society, University of Moratuwa. The event solely focuses on strengthening the financial capabilities of the society by which the students are benefitted immensely through, 

·         Providing financial assistance for students who are in need by awarding scholarships.
·         Facilitating printing books which are very essential for academic purposes.
·         Encouraging extra-curricular activities within the student community.
Veteran musicians in local classical music arena are expected to be participated the event, namely; 20th chapter of the annual musical event ‘Sarasavi Gee Sisila’, organised by the Moratuwa University’s Building Economics Students’ Society (BESS) was held on 25th March 2015 from 6.00 pm onwards at the University premises.

PAQS Re-Accredition Visit - 2015

A panel representing Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) visited the department of Building Economics for reaccreditation of the Quantity Surveying Degree Programme. The panel included;
Prof. Anita Liu (Panel Chairman) – The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS)
Prof. Antony Mills – Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS)
Prof. Nor Ainah Abdullah - Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) 
Ch.QS. Elmo Fernando – Institute of Quantity Surveyors Sri Lanka (IQSSL)
The panel recommended to reaccreditate the B.Sc. (Hons.) Quantity Surveying degree programme after the critical evaluation.

Ashan Weerasekara plays for the Award Winning National Baseball Team

Ashan Weerasekara, a final year undergraduate of Department of Building Economics played for the national team in the 11th East Asia Baseball cup held in Indonesia. In addition to hosts Indonesia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Sri Lanka competed in the tournament which took place from May 2 – 8.
Ashan has shown outstanding talents in many fields. Being the captain of University baseball and hockey teams in year 2014, he was selected for the national baseball team of Sri Lanka. 

RICS Re-Accreditation Visit – 2015

A panel representing the Royal Institute of Charted Surveyors visited the Department of Building Economics for reaccreditation of the Quantity Surveying and Facilities Management degree programmes. The panel included;

Mr. Shantha Fernando 
Mr. Russell Cooray

The panel recommended to reaccreditate the B.Sc. (Hons.) Quantity Surveying and B.Sc. (Hons.) Facilities Management degree programmes after the critical evaluation.

44th BEMRU Research Colloquium

The 44th BEMRU Research Colloquium was delivered on the topic “Content Analysis”, by Dr. (Ms.) Udayangani Kulathunga (Senior Lecturer, School of the Built Environment, University of Salford), at the Department of Building Economics of University of Moratuwa, on 29th July 2015. The colloquium was focused on content analysis and use of NVivo and Decision Explorer software in research. It also clarified the common norms arising in the due course of research.
