Blood Donation

Building Economics Student Society of University of Moratuwa organized a blood donation camp on 9th September 2015 in the Department of Building Economics New Building. The camp was held from 9 am after a Dharma Deshana. There were a large number of donors and helpers for the success of the event. Blood donation campaign was a one of the charity works conducted and sponsored by the BESS, with the intention of providing a place for donating both blood and the compassion to the innocent people. Hereby, the BESS would like to express the sincere gratitude to all the donors and all the other helping hands for the great cause of saving a life.

Pirith Ceremony

An all-night pirith-chanting ceremony was held on the 12th of July 2015 in the new building premises by the effort of Level II undergraduates and with the participation of other batches and academic and non-academic staff of the Department of Building Economics. In the following morning a Dana Pinkama (Alms Giving) was taken place for 20 Buddhist Priests at the same place.

Word Facilities Management Day celebrations ceremony in Sri Lanka, organized by the Level II undergraduates of Department of Building Economics, was held from 4.30 PM onwards on 05th July 2015, in the Civil Engineering Auditorium of University of Moratuwa. This exclusive event, in which the importance of Facilities Manager’s role was highlighted, was participated by Facilities Management students, professionals, academics, and representative bodies. The focus of the Word Facilities Management Day 2015 was 'Building Resilience for Future'.

The ‘Sarasavi Gee Sisila Magazine’ was launched on 25th of March 2015 during the event of ‘20th Sarasavi Gee Sisila 2015’, with the purpose of celebrating the victory of 20 years’ successful journey of Sarasavi Gee Sisisla. The background of very first page of the magazine contains a banana tender leaf of which colour was used to reflect the traditions. The history of the Sarasavi Gee Sisisla, was presented in the magazine in order to make next generations aware of it. The magazine ends up with the theme of “The victory gained through dedications is tasty”.

BESS successfully completed the ‘20th Sarasavi Gee Sisila 2015’, the classical music extravaganza, while making a remarkable benchmark on the history of University of Moratuwa. The event was held on 25th of March 2015 at Sumanadatsa Courtyard among thousands of connoisseurs.

Bodhi Pooja Pinkama

A special Bodhi Pooja Pinkama was held on 29th of January 2015 at Kalutara temple, steered by Building Economics Students' Society of the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa, in order to invoke blessings for Sarasavi Gee Sisila 2015 to be a splendid sensational music extravaganza. Pursuing religious blessings prior to commencing the musical show has been practicing since past several years. Hence, the undergraduates strongly believed in commencing preparation work for Sarasavi Gee Sisila 2015 with a fresh mind once receiving the blessings and guidance of the most Venerable thero at the temple for a successful endeavor.

BESS Welfare Print Shop Opened

Building Economics Students' Society Welfare Print Shop was reopened on 21st November 2014 by Ch. QS (Mr.) Indunil Seneviratne, Former Head of the Department of Building of Economics, with the presence of Ch. QS (Mrs.) B. A. K. S. Perera, Senior Lecturer, Department of Building Economics and Ch. QS (Mr.) Suranga Jayasena, Senior Lecturer, Department of Building Economics. First, the BESS Welfare Print Shop was opened few years back, for providing print and photocopy services for students of Department of Building Economics, at a lower price.

New Executive Committee Members Took Over Duties

Annual general meeting of BESS members held on 25th of November 2014 at new building premises of Department of Building Economics. After presenting and approving the previous year’s meeting minutes and the budget, the new committee members of the Building Economics Students' Society (BESS) for the year 2014 / 2015 took over duties. The consecration of former members were highly appreciated and new members were congratulated in the meeting.
